Columbia Valley, Washington

A Columbia Valley Merlot with eight years in the bottle behind it, drinking in its window now.

About the region. The Columbia Valley AVA is the largest viticultural area in Washington and one of the most important wine regions in the Pacific Northwest. The region is semi-arid, with only 6 to 8 inches of rain annually and irrigation drawn largely from the Columbia Basin Project. Warm days and cool nights, combined with loess and sandy soils, are well suited to Bordeaux red varieties — Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc among them.

In the glass. Blackberry, an earthy undertone, and a velvety texture that comes with bottle age. Fully resolved tannins and a long finish.

Pairs with: braised short ribs, roast lamb, mushroom dishes, blue cheese, dark-meat poultry.

Vintage - 2015
Varietal - Merlot
AVA - Columbia Valley, Washington
Tasting notes - Blackberry, earthy, velvety
Format - 750 ml
